關於arXiv endorsement issue

獻慶將preprint投稿到arXiv。由於獻慶不是該領域的人，就會遇到需要endorsement的問題。

在arXiv上投稿到不同領域時，arXiv系統會阻擋投稿流程，並出現下列訊息。

並且會寄一封公版的e-mail到註冊的信箱，方便我們寄信，請人幫忙endorse。

Endorsement needed for eess.SY You must get an endorsement from another user to submit an article to category eess.SY (Systems and Control).

arXiv is an openly accessible, moderated repository for scholarly articles in specific scientific disciplines. Material submitted to arXiv is expected to be of interest, relevance, and value to those disciplines. Endorsement is necessary but not sufficient to have a article accepted in arXiv. All submissions are subject to moderation and arXiv reserves the right to reject or reclassify any submission.

We’ve sent an email message to hsienching.chung@gmail.com with a unique endorsement code; please forward this e-mail to someone authorized to endorse you for category eess.SY (Systems and Control.)

Who is qualified to endorse?

To endorse another user to submit to the eess.SY (Systems and Control) subject class, an arXiv submitter must have submitted 3 papers to any of eess.AS, eess.IV, eess.SP or eess.SY earlier than three months ago and less than five years ago.

You can find out if a particular person is qualified to endorse by looking up one or more of their articles and clicking on the link “Which of the authors of this article can endorse?” at the bottom of the abstract.

It would be good for you to find an endorser who is connected with you: for instance, if you’re a graduate student, your thesis advisor or another professor in your department would be a good choice. Otherwise, you should choose an endorser whose work is related to the subject of your article.

這看起來就是要有一個該領域的專家來認證，讓我們可以進去該領域。

重寫信件(不要直接使用arXiv官方信件)

直接找人寄出arXiv系統給的信件也是可以啦! 只是會讓對方感覺比較”衝動”。

畢竟系統信件上面，並沒有太多個人資料，讓對方知道我們是誰，為何要幫忙這件事情。

所以必須要講清楚身分跟目的。這樣對方才知道該不該幫忙，如何幫忙。

以增加endorsement的成功率。

  1. 可能是學術的e-mail系統擋住g-mail的信件。
  2. 可能是當事人略過信件、不想處理這檔事。畢竟大頭通常很忙，不想處理這種瑣碎的事情。這很正常。

當天(2024-05-07)下午，Prof. David A. Howey來信回應，他可以幫忙，但遵守arXiv規則，需要看要發表的論文，來確定是否合適。獻慶直接將論文寄過去給他看，過沒多久，arXiv官方就發e-mail通知endorse成功。

稍後，Prof. Sridhar Iyer來信說已經幫忙endorse。
Prof. Onel Alcaraz López有來信。
Prof. Simon Tindemans也有來信，給了endorse的建議，他可以幫忙，但也是說要看paper。

第三輪 - 成功檢討

從arXiv官網上的文章下面，確認作者有沒有endorse的能力，再去聯絡該作者，請求幫忙。是比較有效率的方式。

重寫請求endorse的信件，表明自己的身分及目的，也是很重要的一點。

尋找endorser時，不要太含蓄，一次找一個，那會沒效率。一次找一堆，以提高成功率。

arXiv官方通知，成功被endorse

Endorser進行endorse的動作後，arXiv官方就寄e-mail來通知，已經被endorse，可以開始投稿。

從E-mail可看到，有三個時間點被endorse。

感想

很困難沒錯，前前後後，搞了很久。但得去試，去找方法。

有好的方法，就快了，但還是得去試。

總之，這個門終於打開了! 而未來也知道該如何開門!
