In April 2024, Hsien-Ching wrote an English Wikipedia page for Distinguished Professor Ming-Fa Lin.

The content was rewritten into Wikipedia format with reference to Professor Lin’s resume, and of course, a large amount of verification information was added.

At the same time, the English title of Professor Lin’s doctoral dissertation has been corrected in the National Digital Library in Taiwan and the National Tsing Hua University Library.

After the Wikipedia page was completed, Wikipedian commented and put it under the title. Comment that this article is too similar to a “personal resume.”

如何增加說明林明發特聘教授的研究貢獻 (How to increase the explanation of Distinguished Professor Lin’s research contributions)

我們可以增加一些小短文來強調林明發教授的研究貢獻。

但根據維基百科的寫作規則,並不能任意將內容貼上,要放上的內容必須要有資料佐證,並且具有一定的重要性。

為了達到此目的,我另外開了一個”Research highlights”的章節。在此章節下方,放上一些小短文來強調林明發教授的科學研究貢獻。

We can add some short articles to highlight the research contributions of Professor Lin.

However, according to Wikipedia’s writing rules, content cannot be posted arbitrarily. The content to be posted must be supported by source data and be of certain importance.

To achieve this goal, I have created an additional “Research highlights” section. Under this section, we can put some short articles to highlight Professor Lin’s scientific research contributions.

In order to show the effect, here Hsien-Ching wrote a subsection “Optical properties of graphene nanoribbons” directly under the section “Research highlights”, saying that Professor Lin and Professor Shyu were the first to predict the optical selection rules of graphene nanoribbons.

I can write this content because the “Optical properties of graphene nanoribbons” have been described on the “Graphene nanoribbon” topic page in Wikipedia for many years. Have a certain degree of scientific contribution and importance.

At the bottom of the subsection title, there is a “Main article: Graphene nanoribbon § Optical properties” that gives an internal link to the original discussion in the Wiki. Clicking it will return to the page location where “Graphene nanoribbon” discusses “Optical properties of graphene nanoribbons.”

To complete the task of writing down the scientific contributions of Professor Lin on Wikipedia is not something that Hsien-Ching can accomplish alone.

Professor Lin has many research topics and fields, and Hsien-Ching does not know all the details, nor its importance in the scientific community.

This is not something that needs to be done immediately, and there is no need to rush.

Hsien-Ching know that some of Professor Lin’s partners are already giants and had made high contributions to the scientific community and society, and are able to provide credible information for people to understand Professor Lin’s scientific contributions.

Hsien-Ching also believes that some partners may become giants in the future and will make high contributions to the scientific community and society. They can also explain clearly their contribution to the scientific community together with Professor Lin.
